The Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities conference 2023 starts today in Brussels

The Cities Mission annual conference will take place today and tomorrow, 26 and 27 June 2023, in Tour et Taxis in Brussels, and will see the participation of public authorities and stakeholders involved in the Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities Missions, and of the Mission Implementation Platform.

The first day of the conference will facilitate exchange and dialogue among city practitioners, including discussions on thematic and policy knowledge and peer-to-peer exchange among Mission Cities.

During the second day, the planning includes sessions on the progress of the Cities Mission since its launch, opportunities and challenges for the cities aiming to reach climate neutrality within 2030. In the afternoon, there will two separate tracks: one for political representatives and the other one for practitioners.

The European Commission invites city representatives, national and regional authorities, and key stakeholders at EU, national, and regional levels to contribute with their perspectives to the discussion on the future of European cities and the way forward to climate neutrality.

Among the speakers are:

    • Frans Timmermans, Executive Vice-President, European Commission, who will delivering the closing speech
    • Marc Lemaître, Director-General DG Research and Innovation, European Commission, who will deliver the keynote speech on the beginning on Day 2
  • Patrick Child, Deputy Director-General DG Environment | Cities Mission Manager
